A working knowledge base for SAP Transportation Management - insight over noise, facts over fog.
A working knowledge base for SAP Transportation Management - insight over noise, facts over fog.
The practitioner's home for SAP Transportation Management and supply chain. Written by Deborah Born and published on sapperment, an independent SAP publishing platform. Where Andreas Born's SAP Executive Clarity hub answers why to transform, the SAP TM Hub answers how to make it work - freight order to freight settlement, planning to Business Network collaboration.
The SAP TM Hub is a working knowledge base, not a brochure. It collects field-tested guidance on SAP Transportation Management - the decisions, configuration trade-offs, and operational realities that don't appear in a datasheet. Every piece is built from real project experience and written to be useful the day you're standing in front of a blank customizing screen or a stalled go-live.
It exists because most SAP TM content sits at one of two unhelpful extremes: vendor marketing that promises everything, or documentation so granular you can't see the process for the IMG nodes. This hub sits in between - practitioner-level, opinionated, and honest about where SAP TM is strong and where it needs care.
This hub is for anyone whose work touches SAP Transportation Management - whether you run it, build it, learn it, hire for it, or you're just trying to work out where SAP logistics is heading. That's a wider group than most people assume:
Business leaders accountable for transportation, logistics, and supply-chain transformation
SAP customers evaluating, implementing, or optimising SAP TM and S/4HANA
Consultants deepening their expertise, earning certifications, or keeping up with new releases
Job seekers after their next SAP TM role - from graduates to senior architects
Employers and recruiters trying to find people who actually know SAP TM
System integrators and partners building a Transportation Management practice
Software vendors building complementary solutions for the SAP logistics ecosystem
Students and career changers exploring one of SAP's fastest-growing specialisms
Whatever brought you here - to learn, to hire, to implement, or just to compare notes - the aim is the same: practical, field-tested insight, and a way to connect with the people doing this work for real.
The Hub is organised into topic clusters so each area builds depth over time and links to the articles around it. Start with the cluster closest to your current question.
Freight order management - turning a transportation requirement into an executable freight order: stages, consignments, document flow, and execution through to proof of delivery.
Carrier selection and tendering - strategy-based selection, cost and priority ranking, and tendering through direct, broadcast or peer-to-peer processes. [Articles coming soon]
Charge calculation and freight settlement - rate tables, scales and calculation sheets, carrier settlement, and freight cost distribution back to the business. [Articles coming soon]
Transportation planning and optimization - the transportation cockpit, capacity and constraints, and the optimizer for load consolidation and route building. [Articles coming soon]
SAP Business Network for Logistics and freight collaboration - carrier collaboration, event and status updates, and document exchange beyond your four walls. [Articles coming soon]
SAP GTS and cross-border trade - how Global Trade Services complements TM for customs and trade compliance on international movements. [Articles coming soon]
Three ways to follow the work as it is published. SAP TM Insights Newsletter - a regular briefing on what is changing in Transportation Management and what it means for your roadmap. Transforming Perspectives - longer-form pieces on transformation done right, value realisation over transformation theatre. TM on LinkedIn - short, sharp takes, collected and searchable so the good ones do not disappear down the feed.
The SAP TM Community on LinkedIn is where the conversation continues - practitioners comparing notes on freight orders, settlement edge cases, Business Network onboarding and planning strategy. It is the fastest way to pressure-test an approach against people who have done it before. Continue the discussion in the SAP TM Community. Join the group
Transportation decisions rarely sit on their own. If you are weighing SAP TM inside a broader Cloud ERP, RISE, GROW or Clean Core programme, the executive angle lives in Andreas Born's companion hub. Looking for the why behind the transformation? Read SAP Executive Clarity.
